Smoothies

Smoothies are a great way to replace meals or to have a snack mid-afternoon.  And the right smoothie will help you lose weight.  In this post I want to give you several smoothies that will curb your appetite especially in the afternoon, that are simple to make and most of the ingredients you can keep in the freezer or in your cabinet.


1. Peanut Butter and Jam Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cups water or almond milk
  • 1 cup berries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup of spinach
  • 1 scoop of protein powder or 5.5oz Greek yogurt
  • 4 tablespoons flax seed
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons of nut butter

Directions: Place all ingredients in a blender, and mix until smooth.  Pack half away in a glass bottle for tomorrow.  Servings: 2.


2. Mega Green Smoothie - This smoothie is sweet and healthy!  Protein in this drink makes it more filling and will stabilize blood sugar, which will activate faster weight-loss.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups chopped kale leaves
  • 1 1/4 cups mango or pineapple (fresh or frozen)
  • 2 medium ribs celery, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped parsley or cilantro
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh mint
  • 5.5oz Greek yogurt OR 1/2 avocado OR 1 scoop protein powder
  • 2 tablespoons chia seed.

Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth.  Pack half away in a glass bottle for tomorrow.  Servings: 2.


3.  Spicy Chocolate Strawberry Smoothie - This is one of the most exciting smoothies I've had in a long time!  The chili revs up your metabolism and the strawberries and chocolate make it delish packed with vitamin C and magnesium.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup strawberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 2-4 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 small piece of fresh ginger or 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon of dried red chili flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon powder
  • 2 cups unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 scoops protein powder or 2 packages of Greek yogurt

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth.  Pack half away in a glass bottle for tomorrow. Servings: 2.


4. Sunshine Smoothie - This smoothie is pure sunshine and will fire up your metabolism.

Ingredients:

  • 4 saffron threads (substitute 1/4 teaspoon turmeric and 1/2 teaspoon paprika)
  • 1/2 cup frozen mango
  • 1/2 frozen banana
  • 2 pinches ground ginger

  • 2 scoops protein powder or 2 packages of Greek yogurt
  • 2 tablespoons hemp seeds

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a blender until smooth.  Pack half away in a glass bottle for tomorrow.  Servings: 1


5. Raspberry Avocado Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 6oz unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1 scoop protein powder or 1 package of Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 cup raspberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/4 avocado peeled and chopped
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened shredded coconut or an additional 1/4 avocado
  • 2 tablespoon flax seeds
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth.  Servings: 1.


6. Berry Queen Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
  • 1/2 cup of any type of berries (fresh or frozen)
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon

Directions: Combine all ingredients in a blender and mix until smooth.  Servings: 1.


7. Spiced Green Tea Smoothie

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup strong green tea chilled
  • 1 cup spinach
  • 1 small pear cut into pieces
  • 1 scoop protein powder or 1 package of Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • ice cubes

Combine all the ingredients in a blender into smooth.  Servings: 1.


8. Spinach Coconut Smoothie

  • 1 scoop of protein or 1 package of Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened grated coconut
  • 1 cup spinach (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 cup broccoli (fresh or frozen)
  • 1 teaspoon cardamon powder
  • 2 tablespoons chia seeds.

 

Combine all the ingredients in a blender into smooth.  Servings: 1.
